We do not know where to start, we still cannot believe that our colleague and friend has gone. Jo was a truly generous person, she would give up her time for you whenever you needed it. An arm of support when you needed advice, making you laugh when you looked down or even if it was only to smile and say hello, she would give her time to you. She treated everyone equally, regardless of who you were to our school, and that is what made her the teacher she was and the impact she had on us all. It is heartbreaking thinking that when we return that one of our own will not be there with us. We miss you Jo, rest in peace and look down on us. Our thoughts are with her family at this time. Bye Jo xxx

Mrs Evan's was such a thoughtful and kind teacher and really helped my daughter, she did not judge but offered support and advice in a very caring and gentle manner, you are in our thoughts and prayers at this very sad time.

- Helen S and family

I am very sad to hear of the passing of Mrs. Evans, while I didn't have her as my teacher for long since maths was definitely not one of my better subjects I remember her very fondly. She was one of my favourite teachers, you could always have a laugh with her but she could still be terrifying when a student made her lose her temper! My deepest condolences to her family, friends and all of the school staff. She will be very much missed.

- Daniel Sale

Having had the pleasure of her teaching during my time at Eddies and having friends that now work in the maths department, it’s clear how much of an impact Mrs Evans had on her pupils and colleagues alike. I have nothing but fond memories of her and her lessons. A great teacher and such a lovely person who will be greatly missed. My sincere condolences to her family and friends. Rest easy Mrs E xx

- Ashley Worgan

I was saddened to hear the news about my teacher Mrs Evans, she was very supportive and nothing was too much. My thoughts are with her family at this sad time.

- Max Young

Mrs Evans taught me between 2005-2009. She was one of the standout teachers during my time at the school and it's no surprise she progressed to be head of department. Besides being a great teacher, she was also very personable and knew when to have a laugh with her students. A great role model for teachers who have worked with her and a huge loss for the school. Condolences to her friends and family.

- Daniel Simpson

With deepest sympathy and sincere condolences to all involved.

-  Jackie Holden, kitchen chef

I may never of had the honour of having Mrs Evans as a teacher but on the many occasions that I talked to her, she made me feel as an equal. Whether that be talking to her for a ruler, or talking to her form, she truly was an amazing woman

- Aoife McMahon

I always thought I was early in a morning, but no...you was always in before me. I am going to miss our chats walking up the corridor. I am certainly going to miss your radiant smile that brightened up the room .. God bless Mrs Evans x

- Mrs D Davies

Jo, I don't know where to start...our corner won't be the same without you. Your jokes, your spirit, your honest and loving friendship. I loved our heart to hearts. You were so kind and caring, always asking after me. You could sit for an age talking about your beautiful children with such love and passion. Hardworking, dedicated and an amazing colleague and friend. Always in our prayers and our hearts. Mrs Melling xxx

Mrs Evans was a huge influence on me from the day she became my teacher in year 9, we will all miss her very much.

Mrs Evans was a dedicated, loving teacher with a positive outlook on life and an endless amount of patience and understanding for all of her students. Her passion for maths was admirable and her hardworking nature was an inspiration to all. She had the kindest heart and I am so thankful for everything she has taught me. - Louise Travis

Mrs Evans was the best teacher I’ve ever had. I was lucky enough to have her throughout Year 9 and Year 10, and any of my successes in Maths are completely down to her. She was so dedicated, she used to stay up all night marking out tests as soon as we had completed them, just so we could go through them the very next lesson. She was so unbelievably patient, always helping me and encouraging me to ask questions if I was struggling. Once she was sure I had understood, she would then continue to check in on me and would not be satisfied until I had mastered it. Every maths lesson, she would greet us with a smile and a funny comment, I always felt completely comfortable to talk to her about anything and she truly made me smile every single lesson. She will never be able to replaced, and I will always remember what she did for me in the two years i was taught by her. I’m more grateful to her than I can ever say, and I am deeply sad that she will no longer be here to teach us all the subject she so clearly loved, and to cheer up my day like she always knew how to. You will be truly missed by all at school, and my thoughts are with your family at this tragic time.

- Kira Forber

Mrs Evans never taught me, however I was lucky enough to be a maths mentor for Year 8 pupils when I was in Year 10 and I helped a few pupils in Mrs Evans’ Year 8 form at the time. She was a lovely, caring teacher and will be missed by all in the household

- Patrick D 11A

You helped me with maths when I was struggling and always made the lessons so much more fun. Thanks to you I did great in my maths GCSE and you will be missed massively. Rest in peace.

- Nathaniel Maddock

I’m so saddened to hear the news of Mrs Evans passing. I can’t put into words how grateful I was to have you as a form tutor throughout my time at school. I didn’t get the opportunity to have her teach me maths, but she knew how much I disliked that subject and would always help in form times if she knew I was struggling. She was truly an amazing woman. My thoughts are with her family and friends, she will be greatly missed. x

- Laura Brown

As an ex pupil from St Edmund Arrowsmith I am really sad to hear the news of Mrs Evans. I had Mrs Evans for 3 years leading up to leaving school. Maths the subject I absolutely hated and dreaded, and not my strongest subject at all, Mrs Evans turned that around and helped me get the grade I wanted. Such a lovely person and great teacher, she was always there for me. Thankyou for showing me what I can do, and for being the best maths teacher of all time. You will be missed greatly x

- Angel-Blue Lyons (2008-2013) ex pupil

First you were teacher at the school when I was a pupil and you were always someone who was smiling and making people laugh. Although you didn't teach me you were always there to chat to, either to help with maths work or with any other problems that anyone had. Then you were the person that gave me the opportunity to get some work experience here when I was becoming qualified and you always made sure that I had everything I needed to progress. Then finally as a colleague you have always put a smile on my face and made me feel welcome whenever I have been in your department or just in the corridors around school. It is going to be so strange not seeing you around anymore and you are going to be sorely missed by everyone. RIP Mrs Evans

- Miss Walsh

Mrs Evans was one of the kindest teachers and she will be missed a lot x

- Mia

I was in Mrs Evans' maths class from Year 9 to Year 11. I will never forget her clear passion for teaching, helping and maths. It would be wrong to say she just taught us maths, she did so much more than that. Mrs Evans encouraged us all to be the best we could be and that had a great influence on me. It has been 6 years since I left high school and yet Mrs Evans' would still talk to my mum and ask about me at my brother's parents evenings, that is a testament to the person she was. She always truly cared about her pupils. Thank you for all your help and inspiration Mrs Evans, you will be missed. My thoughts are with her family at this difficult time.

Thomas Bell (Student 2009 - 2014)

Mrs Evans was one of my favourite teachers, she always knew how to make me laugh, and was also very cheerful, to me she was not just a teacher, she was a friend who always helped me when i was stuck and many others could say the same. I hope that she has a good afterlife and we will miss you when you are no longer with us.

- Will Bates

Mrs Evans was an amazing teacher who will be sorely missed. Every lesson was fun and interesting and I always looked forward to the maths lesson in my schoolday. Thank you for the last 2 years Mrs Evans. Rest in Peace.

It is with great sadness that we heard about the tragic loss of Mrs Evans. From our personal experience, Mrs Evans has always been very kind and encouraging to Benjamin - a real ambassador for the values our school upholds. Also, a fantastic colleague who was passionate about her subject and bringing the best out in every student she taught. We hold her family in our prayers during this incredibly sad time.

One of Jo's special qualities was her humility so I know she would be over-whelmed by the love that is being shown for her on this tribute page. She selflessly touched and shaped people's lives. I hope her treasured family circle find comfort in the esteem that she was held and I pray that we now live our lives by her example.

- Annemarie Doolan

Our deepest sympathies to Mrs. Evans family, friends & all at St. Edmund Arrowsmith.

- A Doherty 9W & Family

My memory of Jo is of a vibrant, passionate and caring woman. She was a fabulous head of department: a leader who believed in her staff and supported them with every fibre of her being. I will also remember her as a proud mother whose face lit up when she spoke about her children. Jo will now live on. Not only through her wonderful children but also through the many, many pupils who she helped to achieve their potential. We will miss you dearly, Jo. May the choirs of angels come to greet you. Xxx

- Catherine Hollins

Mrs Evans taught me Maths back in 2014, and she had a very effective and enjoyable manner of teaching, in a subject that many students struggle with the most. She improved my abilities and self confidence, and for that I'll always be grateful. However, what I'll really remember her for is her unwavering kindness, understanding and sense of fairness. She was a true credit to her profession, and her loss will be profoundly felt.

- Krystyna Szczerba

Such terrible news. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family along with the school family and community at this truly sad time. xxxx

- Marie Calderbank

I had the pleasure of being in Mrs Evans first class she took with SEA in 2005. She was passionate, caring and all so encouraging to all in her class. She constantly pushed me to better myself and continue with a subject I openly struggled with. Much love to her family and may she rest in peace.

- Daniel

Rest in peace Mrs Evans. You truly were the best! You helped me on my bad days and on my good. Thank you for the best three and a half years teaching me maths- I wouldn’t have passed if it wasn’t for you! You will be missed by everyone, my heart goes out to your wonderful family xx rip

- Ellie Witherington

Our sympathy, thoughts and prayers are with Jo's family, friends, students and colleagues. Jo was a loyal, hard working member of staff at Eddie's and was a great example of the ethos of the school. While we grieve now, our memories of Jo will be a source of joy and inspiration in the future.

- Steve Westhead

It is hard to find words for Jo's sudden passing away. Mark (the head) did it admirably in his letter. I knew her when I worked voluntary in the Maths department a couple of years ago and Mark's words ring so true. She demonstrated deep care and love for each and every student that came under her wings as well as the staff in her department and to all others she worked with. She will be deeply missed. My thoughts are with Jo, her family and the whole of the school at this very sad time. R.I.P. Jo.

- Andy Connellan

Mrs Evans was a really nice teacher I remember that day when she helped my and my mate succeed in our Maths Road show. It is sad to hear that she has died and I always keep that memory in mind always.

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Mrs Jo Evans. I know I only met her once but I was very much looking forward to working with her from September. It was clear to see that she was extremely well liked and respected, personally and professionally. I am sure it is a great loss to the school and she will be missed by all pupils and staff. Just by that one meeting I could tell she was extremely passionate about teaching and the subject of Maths. I am sure you will all pull together as a community and support each other during this difficult time. If there is anything I can do to help or support the school please let me know.

- C Turner

So very sad. Sorry to hear the news. I believe Mrs Evans was a lovely teacher.

- Ruby D 9M

Such sad news x thoughts are with her family and nearest and dearest.

- Evie P 8W

So sorry to hear this news. Thinking of you all and her family.

- Joshua F 10S

Just visited the school website and completely shocked and greatly saddened to have seen this. Having worked with Mrs Evans twenty five years back, I met up with her again to teach at "the Eddies," for a term last year. Within that term in a great school with fantastic staff and industrious students, it was a privilege to work for and with her alongside a great team. The only things that had changed about her was the fact that she worked even harder, had another youngster and drove a different car. Still really honest and straightforward, still very supportive and yet still time for a joke here and their. My sympathy and condolences to her family and everybody connected with Mrs Evans, and thoughts and prayers also with the school community.

- Colin Riley

Jo, I will miss you dearly. Your fantastic sense of humour in all situations will be missed greatly. Thank you for the compassion, patience and understanding you showed when teaching my son. I’ll miss our Literacy /Numeracy meetings and all the great conversations we held to place the pupils correctly. You always had the pupils best interest at heart and they knew this. I’ll cherish the support you gave to me and miss your lovely smile. May you rest in peace and dance with the angels. Xx

- Marianne Roche

RIP Mrs Evans, you will be missed.

- Lydia

I just wanted to say although you weren't my teacher many of my friends have commented on how kind you were and I agree with them! :)

We are so sorry to hear of the passing of Mrs Evans. Sending lots of love to her family at this very sad time. Such a loss to the school family.x

- The Howard Family

Mrs Evans was the sunshine to our school, making it bright and warm. Her smile was comforting and her laugh was amazing. Although, I never had Mrs Evans as a teacher I was always told that she was the best. In 2019 I had a once in a life time experience of going to New York with school. During that trip I had her as my leader of our group. She was brilliant on that trip. She made sure that we were all safe and she looked after everyone. She was always smiling and just being fun to be around. From then on, being in the presence of her was great. If you we’re having a bad she turned it around. Mrs Evans was a great teacher and she will be missed so much. Our school will be in the dark for a while but I sure she will give us the light to make us remember her. Mrs Evans will never be forgotten and her memory will live on in the school. Thank you Mrs Evans for being a wonderful person inside and out.

- Madelaine Smith

Mrs Evans will be missed hugely by all of the staff at St Edmund Arrowsmith. She had such a wonderful sense of humour and we, down in History, always enjoyed a passing chat with Mrs Evans as she went to and from the Maths class nearby. The tributes here demonstrate the esteem in which Mrs Evans was held by staff and pupils. She was such a lovely lady and our heartfelt condolences go to her family.

- Mr Linton and the History Department

To my friend Jo, I cannot believe that I am writing in your book of remembrance. Firstly, I know you’ll want my thoughts and prayers to go to your family whom you talked about every day and loved unconditionally; I promise you that they do. I have so many fond memories, all of which bring a smile to my face when I begin thinking about them. I used to dread going into your classroom to speak to a kid if you were teaching; you always classed me as ‘an honorary member of the Maths department’ and I would have to laugh every time I disturbed your lesson when you would say: “I bet Mr Cullen can tell you the answer to this; he’s got A Level Maths” and then give me a near impossible quadratic equation to solve in front of everyone! I might only be in your classroom for less than two minutes, but I’d always come out much better at Maths compared to when I went in – that’s why the kids absolutely loved you. If I had only one word to describe you Jo, it would have to be fun. We’ve shared so many laughs in school: our bets about who would get Air Conditioning in their classroom first, and your delight that you won and I’m still waiting, to you teasing me for my assemblies! Those laughs multiplied when it came to some of the staff nights out that we’ve had over the years, especially as you’d try to plan my life for me! Now, God has decided to call you home. Thank you for the many fun times and for being such a terrific friend. Rest in heavenly peace x

- Dean Cullen

Mrs Evans was the best maths teacher and one of the nicest teachers I know. She was always there for me if I needed anything and would email me during lockdown to see how I was doing. Since I had Mrs Evans I finally started to understand an feel more confident with maths. She will be remembered and missed by me and many others as Mrs Evans and her family will be in our thoughts and prayers x

- Rebekah Blakeledge

Mrs Evans was an inspiring teacher to all of her pupils and will be missed dearly by the SEA community. Thoughts and prayers to Mrs Evans’ family and friends during this incredibly difficult time. Rest In Peace. X

- Chloe Cockram

You never taught me but I know you had a profound effect on some of my friends and relatives. You ran an incredible department that not only achieved academic success with pupils but also taught us to love a subject that most dislike. What a legacy to leave behind! I send all my love and condolences to your family.

Whilst you never taught me, one clear memory I have with you was when I was in Y10 and I’d been having a difficult time at home- something I hadn’t told anyone in school, not even my friends. You noticed I was upset, asked if I wanted to sit in your classroom to take a minute and if there was anything you could help with. I told you no and that I would be fine, you replied with ‘women only say they’re fine when they really aren’t fine at all’. You cheered me up instantly and sought me out a week later to check in. I’m forever grateful for your understanding that day, your willingness to listen, even when you should have been on your break- thank you.

- Beth Taylor

It is difficult to find the words to express our deep sense of loss in losing you from our school family Jo. Working with you over the last 13 years, one thing I know to be true is how loved and appreciated you were by everyone in our school family. Your unfaltering dedication to our pupils and your fantastic skills as an outstanding teacher, quite rightly, earned you immense respect as a professional. On a personal note I will miss our ‘corridor catchups’ and the tales about Keith, Lauren and Jack, who I know you loved and adored with your whole being. My thoughts and prayers are with you, Keith, Lauren, Jack and all of your extended family - including everyone in school. You will be missed forever Jo, but your light will shine on in the amazing legacy you leave behind. May the choirs of angels come to you greet you, may you find eternal life. Rest in peace my friend.

- Mrs Gillian Morris

Mrs Evans was my maths teacher during year 10 and 11 (2009-2011). She was an inspiring teacher who often reminded me to not underestimate my ability if I ever doubted my capability to complete the work she set for us. She guided my class to take both maths and statistics, making both classes and the intense workload fun and accessible. She was also a lovely person who had time for everyone. I’d like to offer my condolences to her family, friends and colleagues.

- Lauren Woods

It is with deep sympathy that I am writing this message. Joanne Evans was a beautiful, caring and warm hearted individual. I am 100 percent sure everyone at St Edmund Arrow smith will miss her deeply. She was a wonderful maths teacher and has taught me a lot within my time here between 2017- 2019. I was always asking for her advice regarding maths work that may off helped me in the future and it was never too much to ask. I am sorry I haven't wrote my message earlier. I give me condolences to the family and staff. Sweet dreams Mrs Evans! Thank You, Kirsty.

- Kirsty Rampling

RIP Mrs Evans. A big loss to the school and someone who I know will have touched the lives of many students, parents and colleagues over the years. Thinking of her family during this time.
