Book Buzz – BBC Report.

Recently, a Year 7 class have been working on creating bookmarks for the library, whilst making their own book club. The class worked in average sized groups, and read a book, each group having a different one with a different genre.

We asked each group a set of questions, like how they found the books, and what they would rate it. The first group we asked was reading a book called ‘Playing Against The Odds’. The Year 7’s described the book as interesting, and told us what the story was about. They said the story was a love story, and it is very emotional, but sometimes hysterical. They rated the book a total 4/5 stars, and their recommendation of this book went to a younger age group.

Another group we interviewed was reading a book called ‘Doing the Double’. The Year 7’s described the story to be about two twin boys who have an interest in football. The book goes into further detail when one of the story characters, Joe, gets injured, but still apparently has to play in a football match. The pupils rated the story a 3/5 star rating, and had an opinionated reason for why they liked the book.
Thirdly, the next group we talked to was reading a book called ‘The Dying Photo’. The group described the book to be about a scary man who ‘secretly takes photos’. Further in the story, a boy loses his parents and then meets a girl who tries to help him find them. They recommend the book to people who enjoy reading, and the total rating of the book was 3/5 stars.

Lastly, we spoke to another group who was reading a book called ‘Pale’. The group explained what happened in the book. A boy, the story character, went to school. Later on, as he is heading to a cinema, he gets ran over. He comes back as a ghost, and turns out to be a psychopath, who attempts to kill his living girlfriend. This group rated ‘Pale’ as a 5/5 star rating, however, the recommendations they gave was not to a younger audience, and instead rated the book to be for an age group of 12+ years. Overall, the group enjoyed this book because of the content of it, and found it very interesting.
