Year 8 Pupils Put Maths into Action at Haydock Park
Our Year 8 pupils recently enjoyed an exciting ‘Maths in Action’ trip to Haydock Park Racecourse, where they explored the many ways mathematics is used within the world of horse racing.
During the visit, pupils had the opportunity to explore the weighing room and parade ring, learn about jockeys’ equipment and step onto the racetrack. They also developed their skills in reading and interpreting racecards, applying their mathematical knowledge to a real-world context.
The visit was rounded off with the exciting opportunity to experience live racing, bringing their classroom learning to life in a memorable and engaging way.
Head of Maths, Mr Burgess, said, “It was fantastic to see our Year 8 pupils applying their mathematical skills in such an engaging and authentic setting. The visit provided a brilliant opportunity for pupils to see how maths is used in the real world, while also encouraging them to think critically, solve problems and enjoy mathematics beyond the classroom".
