The Y8 rugby team have secured their place in the semi-finals of the Wigan and Leigh Cup with a convincing 44 - 0 victory over Upholland High School last night.
Following a tough defeat last week in the NW plate, the Y8 group have been keen to put the defeat in their rear-view mirrors.
After a tough opening 10, the SEA boys broke the deadlock and didn't look back. Similarly to last week, the boys put on quite the show for the spectators.
Despite harsh weather conditions, the team played fluid, expansive rugby that proved too much for the opposition to handle. They continued to find themselves in positive field territory due to strong defensive efforts that forced errors from the opposition. Due to this, both halves (Ethan and Will) were able to organise their attacking shape effectively, forcing Upholland into some tricky areas and ultimately, securing some well worked tries.
The toughest decision of the night was selecting the 'Player of the Match', because each pupil played so well. But, due to some brilliant defence, organisation and 2 tries, it had to go to standoff Ethan Ackers.
Both Mr Lindley and Mr Hind were especially proud of the performance, attitude, and togetherness that the team showed. The team will face Lowton on Wednesday at home in the semi-finals.
Try scorers are as follows:
Oliver Petichakis x3, Jack Rogan x2, Joel Sumner x2, Ethan Ackers x2
