As you know, our Y8 rugby team took part in the Warriors Cup yesterday at Robin Park. The 9-a-side competition required the team to play 5 x 10minute games in the league format followed by semifinals and finals. In the intense British summer, this was a challenge in itself! We played against teams from Fred Longworth, St John Fisher, Deanery and St Peters.
In the league phase, our Y8 team performed exceptionally well, playing some of the best rugby we have seen from them yet! In this part of the day we went unbeaten! Winning every game comfortably (Including a 20-4 win against the unbeaten St Peters!).
On to the semifinals against St John Fisher we continued this form and again, won comfortably...the team were flying! Obviously, we faced St Peter's in the final. We put some pressure on ourselves early on by dropping the ball on our own line but the belief the lads had helped to stop St Peter's from scoring in the following set of tackles. We went down the pitch to their try line and was unfortunate to be disallowed a try for not quite getting the ball down. St Peter's were first to score, but we bounced back to take the lead 6-4 with 2 minutes remaining! Could we hold them out and win the trophy?
Unfortunately not...St Peter's managed to score in one of the last plays of the game making them win the game 10-6. The lads were understandably distraught. We were the best team on the day by far and had fallen at the last hurdle. BUT, the Y8 team have finally beaten the 'unbeatable' St Peter's and I know how much that is going to do for the team going forwards. It's a tough job to speak to the team after a day like that...but the positives that came from that day will outweigh the final result.
Please, please, please give the team below as much praise as you can give...they represented our school impeccably That's it for this year...on to the next!
Thanks for your support, the students really do appreciate everyone taking an interest in their success!
