The Science Department at St. Edmund Arrowsmith is dedicated to fostering a love of science, the development of an enquiring mind and an understanding of the impact of science in our world.

The study of science gives you a greater understanding of the natural and physical world and allows you to develop analytical and problem solving skills which will help to support you across your other subjects and in your everyday life.

You will study a wide variety of topics including how living things have changed over time, how our bodies respond to exercise, the physical and chemical properties of different materials, the factors that affect the rate of chemical reactions, how electricity is provided to our homes and how scientific ideas have changed over time.

Many of the things we take for granted would not be possible without the discoveries made by the study of science. These include medical treatment for diseases, having access to mains electricity; being able to plug in your televisions and games consoles, having man made plastics to make things such as your mobile phones, having a remote control to change the channel on your television and being able to send texts to your friends and relatives.

The future developments in new technologies, medicine, engineering and the environment will most likely come through the study of the sciences. Could you be a scientist who in the future works on one of these major discoveries?

You can keep up-to-date with everything happening in the Science department via our twitter feed (@Eddies_Science) or on our area of the website.
