Did you know that the Earth’s poles switch on average every 200,000 to 300,000 years? Well, it’s true! However, it has been a larger increment of time since this last happened. The magnetic fields can take thousands of years to switch, so it is highly likely that the poles are in the process of switching right now – without us noticing…

Experts have theories as to why the poles switch, but nobody knows for sure.

When the poles reverse, we don’t know exactly what will happen. Some believe that some species will become extinct, others say that the reversal will result in rapid climate change or natural disasters. And for all we know, this could be true. Continents could shift, satellites could be damaged, and therefore causing power cuts and communication interruptions – as a result, our precious technology could be in danger!!!

What we know for sure is that if we were alive 800,000 years ago, north would be south on the compass; the Earth’s Magnetic Field will become weak (in fact, there have been theories about us not having a magnetic field at all for approximately 200 years) and there could be other effects that we are currently unaware of.

Just go on with life as usual, these effects might not begin until generations to become. But at least we’ll know when there has been “A Disturbance in the Force”…
