The Modern Foreign Languages Department at St Edmund Arrowsmith is proud to offer French, German and Spanish both at Key Stage 3 and 4.

All pupils in Year 7 are introduced to French and have 3 lessons per week in their Form Tutor group.

In Years 8 and 9, some pupils learn German or Spanish once they have been setted.

In Years 10 and 11 all pupils study French to GCSE level, and an ever increasing number choose to study a second language.

The Department makes extensive use of ICT and satellite television and is supported yearly by foreign language assistants.

Visits abroad feature yearly in the school calendar and include day visits to Boulogne, study breaks to Andalucia in Spain a visit to France involving amongst other activities, a day with a French partner school. The department is also liaising with the Central Bureau to establish e-mail and postal links for pupils and for staff with schools in the target language countries both in the European and worldwide context.
